Phil Johnson joined Siegel LeWitter Malkani in 2021 and represents employees in state and federal courts, as well as in administrative hearings. Phil handles labor and employment litigation.Education and Background
Phil was born and raised in Rockford, Illinois. Prior to enrolling in law school, he spent five years working as a journalist. From sports writing in New York City, to community newspapers in Montana and the Midwest, journalism served as Phil’s travel ticket. His proudest journalistic achievement was uncovering millions of dollars in excessive taxation in a small county in Montana. Phil spent months battling government officials and competing publications before his findings were verified by state officials. His investigative work was recognized with state and national awards. After a two-year stint writing for a legal newspaper, Phil took the plunge into law school. While studying at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law he was a member of Hastings’ competitive mock trial team. He also participated in the school’s Workers’ Rights Clinic, during which he helped a non-English speaking client receive unemployment insurance payments that had been wrongfully denied. He holds an undergraduate and a master’s degree in News-Editorial Journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
