Darin Ranahan began practicing at Siegel, LeWitter & Malkani in 2010 after finishing his legal education at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law. Darin represents workers in state court, federal court, and administrative agencies in a wide array of workplace disputes.

Practice Areas

Darin has represented workers seeking to vindicate their rights for violations of state and federal workplace law, including equal employment protection against discrimination and harassment as well as wage-and-hour protections for meal periods, rest periods, minimum wage, and overtime pay, in both individual and class action capacities. He has represented workers in wrongful termination actions on a number of different legal grounds, including age discrimination, disability discrimination, race discrimination, national origin discrimination, retaliation for making complaints of discrimination, retaliation for use of protected leave, and wrongful termination in violation of public policy.

Affiliations

Darin was admitted to the State Bar of California in 2010. He has been an active member of the National Lawyers Guild since 2007, including serving as Treasurer for the San Francisco Bay Area chapter since 2011 and co-chair of the Berkeley Law chapter from 2008 to 2009. In addition, he is a member of the American Constitution Society and the Alameda County Bar Association.

Darin regularly volunteers with the Legal Aid Society–Employment Law Center’s Workers’ Rights Clinic as an attorney supervisor. In addition, he volunteers with the National Lawyers Guild providing demonstration support work.

Education and Background

Darin attended law school at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law (Berkeley Law). He served as co-Editor-in-Chief of the Berkeley Journal of Employment & Labor Law from 2009 to 2010, in which capacity he supervised the publication of three issues of the journal, the presentation of a symposium on labor standards in federal procurement policy, and the sponsorship of various lectures throughout the year. In addition, he completed clerkships with the Legal Aid Society–Employment Law Center and Lewis, Feinberg, Lee, Renaker & Jackson, P.C., where he represented workers in a number of workplace disputes, as well as clinical programs with the Workers’ Rights Clinic and East Bay Community Law Center, Community Economic Justice Clinic. Beyond his clinical, clerkship, and journal work, Darin actively participated in several student organizations, including the Berkeley Law National Lawyers Guild chapter, the Boalt Hall Labor Coalition, the Berkeley Law Organizing Committee, the Social Justice Student Network, and the American Constitution Society.

Prior to law school Darin worked as a paralegal at Lieff, Cabraser, Heimann & Bernstein, LLP, where he worked on a number of consumer rights, mass tort, and personal injury cases.

Darin earned his bachelor’s degree in Urban Studies from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.
